Process of Making Wear-Resistant Steel Plates

Quenching is the process of rapidly cooling a material or workpiece, typically by immersing it in water or oil. This rapid cooling alters the metal’s internal structure, increasing its hardness.


Tempering follows quenching and involves reheating the material to a specific temperature in air and then allowing it to cool. This process reduces brittleness while retaining much of the hardness gained during quenching.


During quenching, crystal structures form within the metal, which is what enhances its hardness. When the metal is reheated during tempering, these structures partially break down, increasing the material’s toughness and malleability.


The repeated cycle of heating, quenching, and tempering enhances the steel’s durability, making it harder, tougher, and more resistant to fracture.
