AISI 1095 High Carbon Steel Plate

AISI 1095 High Carbon Steel Plate

AISI 1095 high carbon steel plate contains around 0.90% - 1.03% carbon, along with small amounts of manganese, silicon, and minimal phosphorus and sulfur. It offers high hardness, reaching about 58 - 62 HRC after heat treatment, along with good strength and wear resistance. However, its corrosion resistance is relatively poor. This steel plate is widely used in tool making, like for knives and axes, spring manufacturing, and production of machinery parts due to its excellent mechanical properties.

Heat Treatment & Processing

Typical Heat Treatment Process:

Annealing (for machinability):

Heat to 820–900°C, slow cool (~25°C/hour).

Reduces hardness (~HB 200) for easier machining.

Quenching (for maximum hardness):

Heat to 815–870°C, then rapidly cool in water or oil.

Results in martensitic structure (HRC 60+).

Tempering (to reduce brittleness):

Heat to 150–400°C (lower temp = higher hardness).

Balances hardness (HRC 55–60) & toughness.

FAQ

Q:What is AISI 1095 steel?

A:AISI 1095 is a high-carbon steel (0.90-1.03% carbon) known for its high hardness, wear resistance, and edge retention, making it ideal for blades, springs, and cutting tools.

Q:Can it be heat-treated?

A:Yes! Optimal hardening: Heat to 790-830°C, quench in oil/water, and temper at 150-400°C for desired toughness.

Q:What are the key properties?

A:Hardness: Up to 60-65 HRC when heat-treated

Strength: High tensile strength (~850 MPa)

Machinability: Moderate (requires proper tools due to hardness)

Weldability: Poor (prone to cracking; pre/post-heat treatment recommended)

Q:Can it be easily processed?

A:AISI 1095 is easy to process and suitable for various cold - working and hot - working processes.

Q:What about the delivery time?

A:Regularly, the delivery time is about 7 - 15 working days after receiving a 30% deposit. For customized products, the delivery time will be informed in advance.
